Conductivity shows how well water carries an electric current, which rises with the salts dissolved in it. Hintron instruments read it in µS/cm and convert it to TDS or salinity, with temperature compensation.
Standardise the cell against a known solution, typically 1413 µS/cm potassium chloride.
The cell passes a small alternating current through the sample and measures how easily it flows.
The reading is corrected to a reference temperature, and TDS or salinity is derived from it.
Both are calculated from the conductivity reading with a conversion factor. On the HTN-MU003, TDS is 0.5 % of EC and salinity is 0.7 % of EC; select the unit from the keys.
A potassium chloride standard close to the samples, most often 1413 µS/cm at 25 °C. Calibrate again after cleaning the cell or changing it.
Ions move faster in warm water, so conductivity rises by about 2 % for every °C. Automatic temperature compensation corrects every reading to the reference temperature so results stay comparable.
