How it is measured
Calibrate
Set the meter against formazin or polymer standards of known NTU.
Measure
Light scattered at 90° to the beam is measured by the detector.
Report
Scattered intensity is converted to NTU against the calibration.
Where it is measured
Frequently asked
Why is scattered light measured at 90°?
At right angles the detector sees light scattered by particles rather than the transmitted beam, which gives better sensitivity at low turbidity.
