Absorbance and Concentration Measurement
Absorbance links the light a solution takes up to the concentration of what is dissolved in it. Colorimeters work with fixed filters; spectrophotometers select any wavelength across the visible range.

How it is measured
Select
Choose a filter or set the wavelength where the analyte absorbs most.
Zero
Set 100 %T with a blank in the cuvette.
Read
Absorbance of the sample gives concentration through a standard or K factor.

Frequently asked
Colorimeter or spectrophotometer?
A colorimeter is simple and economical for methods with a fixed filter. A spectrophotometer sets any wavelength, which suits method development and a wider range of tests.
Are cuvettes supplied?
Spectrophotometers ship with two 10 mm glass cuvettes; the K-factor colorimeter ships with five glass sample tubes.
