A colony count is the number of bacterial or fungal colonies grown on a Petri dish, used to estimate the microbes in a sample. Hintron colony counters mark each colony with an electronic pen and add it to the count, so every colony is counted once.
Set the incubated Petri dish on the lit counting plate and bring the magnifier into focus.
Touch each colony with the electronic pen. It leaves a mark and adds one to the count.
Read the total on the 6-digit display and work out colony-forming units from the dilution.
Each touch of the pen on a colony marks it on the dish and adds one to the count on the 6-digit display. Nothing is counted twice, and the marks show which colonies are done.
Press the ▼ key under CORRECTION to take one off the count. RESET clears the display for the next dish.
Petri dishes up to Ø 110 mm. The dish sits on an evenly lit counting plate under a 1.7× magnifier on an adjustable arm.
