How it is measured
Charge
A weighed sample is sealed in the bomb under oxygen.
Ignite
The sample burns completely; heat passes to the surrounding water.
Calculate
The temperature rise and the system's heat capacity give calorific value.
Where it is measured
Frequently asked
Why does moisture matter for calorific value?
Water in the sample absorbs heat, so results are often reported on a dry basis. A moisture test alongside gives the correction.
How are results recorded?
The built-in thermal printer gives a hard copy, and results transfer to a computer over USB with the supplied software.
Testing fuels or foods?
Tell us the sample type and daily load. A quotation follows.
